My Lexus has had a check engine code for a couple of years now. Always says gas cap but has 295,000 miles runs great and gets 22-25 miles per gallon. I have changed cap several times and it has a Lexus cap on it. Now it codes for the gas line to the tank from the gas cap. I don’t see any leaks. Only change in gas mileage is when I change stations. What could be the engine light problem?
All right, it's not the gas line because if your gasoline had a leak you'd smell it and gas would leak all over the place. What you have is an EVAP line leak. We mechanics use a smoke machine that we hook up to the evap check valve which is under the hood. Then smoke goes through all the lines and wherever it's leaking,We see smoke coming out.
Always says gas cap
There is no code for "gas cap". OBD2 codes don't tell you a specific part is bad. They indicate a condition exists that may have multiple potential causes. What is the actual code?
Now it codes for the gas line to the tank from the gas cap.
Once again, there is no such code. It would be helpful if you would reveal the actual codes you are seeing.
