Hey Scotty! I have 175,235 miles on my 2007 Nissan Maxima and I want to know If I should do the timing chain work my self or pay a mechanic???
I assume you have worked on cars before, if this is your first time doing one, BE SURE TO HAVE ALL THE RIGHT TOOLS! it is very important that that requirement is met, double and triple check as not having a tool in the middle of that job would be an extreme pain in the butt to deal with. Do your research as well so you can know all the tips and tricks for your vehicle. If you haven't worked on cars much, (oil, spark plugs, coolant changes the basics only) I would not recommend it to do the job yourself and take it to a mechanic instead.
Keep in mind also that the tools you buy for the job would pretty much be one time use and you have to do the job right the first time or else the car is screwed, if you are not confident in your ability as well, take it to a mechanic instead. If you are, good luck and it would be a rewarding experience.
pay a machanic
If you are experienced and confident go ahead but to do it well especially if you are not a pro then pay an experienced mechanic to do it.
They can be tricky even one tooth off can lead to some pretty tedious problems. And if not done correctly there is always a possibility do catastrophic failure so experience depending it would be your call but it is a pretty in depth process
Also if they’re not making noise (whining or rattling) I would leave them alone
