Hello
I inherited a gently used 4WD 2007 Tacoma. Only 106K miles. In the back of the crew cab were 2 NIB Monroe Struts. I looked up the numbers and they do fit the truck. I'll be changing the wheel bearing assembly this weekend so I thought I could replace the struts too.
These new struts do not have replacement springs attached like I see on Scotty's video.
One question...What do the front springs that are there now and OEM? Replace? Reuse? Discard?
Thank you for any assistance.
Monroe are crap products. At 106k miles what you have on the vehicle originally is better than anything Monroe makes. In order to swap them you have to remove the old ones. Use a spring compressor to hold the spring compressed then use a impact gun or special tool to remove the top nut, swap the shock then re ove the compressor and reinstall. It can be dangerous if the spring compressors slip or fail. I did mine on my saturn, the shocks were dead at 220k miles. But on your taco I’ll bet good money yours are working better now than the monroes will new.
If you don’t have issues with the current struts, leave them alone. If you need to replace them, get OEM ones or KYB. As @Thumpy said, the Monro makes trash these days.
