Good morning/evening friends,
I've got a 2015 Silverado 1500 LTZ 5.3L V8 truck with ~55k miles - accident free history. Check engine light is on and states "P050D Cold Start Rough Idling." Light has been on for a few weeks (I know, I know - I've just been busy... I've been driving my other car more often lately to keep the truck parked).
I replaced the spark plugs and plug wires about two weeks ago, and I poured in a container of fuel injector cleaner. The check engine light is still on, but I am not noticing any problems with the truck starting or any major performance issues. The truck has never stalled, and there doesn't appear to be any misfiring. There had been a rough 'lurching' or 'jumping' when accelerating from a stop or decelerating to a near stop, but that immediately stopped after I replaced the plugs and plug wires.
Researched the problem a bit on-line and it seems that I can:
- replace the spark plugs and wires (again)
- replace ignition coils on top of the spark plugs
- replace the fuel injectors
I prefer to do as much maintenance myself on my cars (so long as I have the tools) but I'd rather not take the engine assembly apart to replace the fuel injectors myself - the ignition coils seem "easier" and cheaper, and I am confident that I replaced all 8 plugs and plug wires correctly. I think the fuel injectors would probably cost ~$600-800 to have replaced? I have the cash for that, but would it make more sense to keep driving and dumping in fuel injector cleaner every few tanks of gas in an attempt to clean out the injectors that way?
Thanks! #RevUpYourEngines
