My gas gauge is reading incorrectly. It is now reading about 3/4 when the tank is about half or less full. I had the dealer install an new OEM float but still have the issue. Not to confident with the dealer since they took almost 5 hours to do the swap and still managed to mess up the O-ring when putting it back together. Had to go back and have that fixed which took another 5 hrs. They also tried to charge me for a diagnostic fee. When I called them on it they said "Oh, that right, my bad" Now they want to charge me another diagnostic fee to try and figure out the problem. Is there anything I can do to try and fix it? I do allot of the work on my truck myself. Have the innova 5610 scan tool now and checked, no codes.

The fuel level sensor on your truck is simply a potentiometer (variable resistor). The float moves an arm which sweeps across a resistive element. The signal is sent directly to you cluster gauge (FYI: Toyota calls it a "combination meter"). Thankfully for you, there is no computer involvement. This should make it very easy to diagnose.
test the level sensor: put a meter in resistance mode across the sensor and move the arm. The resistance should vary between 4 (full) and 110 (empty) ohms
test the cluster: get a 100ohm potentiometer and connect it to the cluster. Turn the pot knob , and see if the gauge responds correctly.
