2007 Toyota Camry V6 Engine Power Loss and Whining Noise

Hello everyone, and thanks in advance.

I have just bought a 2007 Camry V6 with the 6 speed automatic transmission and roughly 35k miles on it.

Before buying (from a private party, second owner), I had the car inspected at a Toyota dealership here in Venezuela, and they reported the car was perfect and didn´t need anything. They advised me to buy the car, and so I did.

Got the car, and felt it had no power at higher RPMs, and soon developed an extremely loud and worrying whining noise upon hard acceleration. When going uphill, if I try to accelerate, the car will go down through the gears (no slippage sensed) and RPMs will go up, but the car will not gain speed. Under full throttle, the car will downshift until RPMs go up to 5000 (and no higher than that, however when in neutral, the engine will rev up to the limiter) and the car will remain at 5000 RPMs without gaining speed. The whining noise starts when going past 2500 RPMs and gets louder as the RPMs increase. It whines in gear and in park/neutral as well.

Took it back to the dealer, and they were as shocked as I was by the noise. They thought it might be an accessory pulley, but that was ruled out by taking out the accessory belt and the noise remaining. They removed and cleaned the fuel injectors and went out for a road test with a fuel pressure gauge attached and fuel pressure is ok. The master tech states he has no idea what the problem is and will do further diagnostics.

Do you have any idea what the problem might be? Thank you.

A car that old that really only has 35K miles seems improbable. Presumably the car did not do this when you took it for a test drive. A lot of things can cause power loss. Did the shop you used scan the car for codes and live data? How old are the air filter, fuel filter, fuel pump? Checked for vacuum leaks? Fuel pressure? MAF sensor OK? Clogged fuel injectors?

Noise could be a worn torque converter. (Can you upload a video with noise to a file sharing site and post the link here?) What does the transmission fluid look like?
