[Solved] 2007 Toyota Highlander 2WD V6 3.3, Airbags sign on in the instrument cluster

Hi Scotty and friends,

I recently purchased an '07 Highlander and it had airbag lights on. I got the car inspected at a Firestone before I decided to buy it and mechanic did check out the airbags.
The mechanic mentioned that the Airbags seem to be fine and they hadn't deployed but the code was on and I should get it cleared at a Toyota dealership/crash workshops.

I was wondering, since the Airbags checked out fine can I buy an OBD device and clear the codes myself or it is recommended that I go through a Toyota dealership ?

What are all the stored codes?

Hi,

The codes are:

B1150
B1785
B1786

these seem to be related to the occupant classification system in the front two seats.

Thank you.

  1. You need an awful expensive scan tool to do airbag codes. But it's against the law to sell a car with airbag warning lights on any dealership the soldier that is breaking federal law. I would take it back wherever you got it from they are actually liable for it it could get really expensive and nobody knows if it's going to work or not the mechanic you went to isn't a very good mechanic tell you they look okay that doesn't mean anything

Hi Scotty,
many thanks for your advice.

All the 3 codes point to the front RH seat (right). I’d start by first checking all the airbag connectors and related wiring for damage. Then clearing the codes & see if they come back.

If the codes come back, I’d take Scotty’s advice & take the vehicle back to the seller and demand they fix it, assuming you purchased from a dealership.

The BlueDriver OBD2 scanner claims that it can read airbag codes, so you may try it or find someone who has a fancy scan tool capable of clearing airbag codes.

All the best!
