Scotty,
I'm wondering if this is a good deal. I am in Texas and want something sporty and AWD. I'm doing nation-wide car search and found a 2008 Audi S5 4.2V8 with 6sp 149k in North Carolina. It is a local used car sales lot listing it slashed down to $6900. Says it "has a misfire, they replaced what they can, still misfires, our loss is your gain"
Saw some other YouTube videos of what common issues that VW 4.2L has and fixes. Thought might be easy.
Talked to these people and they can ship to Austin for addtl 700 and they are pressuring me to BUY NOW sight unseen. Car has been sitting on lot for almost 4 months no buyers.
I was inspired by past Scotty videos and web searched and hired a local North Carolina pre purchase mobile mechanic who charged me $140 to inspect the car and promptly shout at me over the phone. Said "Sir if you were my grandson, I be tellin you Mechanic's Special is appropriate if the seller knows the history of the car. If it's a sports car project that the owner got married is having kids getting rid of his 2 door and he knows what he fixed and what still needs fixin, that's an okay to consider. A Mechanic's Special is NOT appropriate from a used car lot who buys cars in bulk, they don't know what they're getting. And very red flagging, they don't know each auction vehicle's history. This car lot selling this Audi, they are eating Auction Remorse and they aren't sellin an Audi they're sellin a headache."
So, Scotty, with all this in mind, shoukd I buy sight semi-unseen?
That car is an endless money pit you would be foolish to even think about purchasing it
