2008 Avalon Or Keep Subaru

Hi Scotty,

I have inherited my mom's 2008 Toyota Avalon with less than 48K miles.

Garage kept and no issues at all, looks and drives like new.

I'm retired and drive very little here in southern Indiana.

I have a new 2024 Subaru Impreza RS with 3K miles on it.

I can only keep one, and keeping the Avalon would be owning a paid off vehicle.

Is the Avalon too old to keep as a low mile daily driver?

Or, is the safer bet to keep the more expensive Subaru?

Thanks for all you do,

M.S.H

At 48K miles if that Avalon has been maintained properly it's barely broken in.

If you go that route bear in mind that being 18 years old it's likely that rubber parts are deteriorating and there may be other issues not immediately apparent. It might be worth having a good mechanic look the car over  so you can make an informed decision. Treat it as though it's a used car you're interested in buying. If all is good it should last a long time and will be much less expensive to operate and maintain than the Subaru which while a decent car, like all late models it is laden with questionable complex technology that will cost a fortune to fix if and when it fails out of warranty.

The Avalon has proven itself to be one of Toyota's most reliable cars. If the Avalon was properly maintained then I'd keep it, and I'd sell the Subaru. The Avalon is a nice comfortable car without all the excessive electronics of a modern car.

Keep the Avalon its a much better car...they were top of the line toyota's back in 2008...or you could sell it to me..

It’s your choice. What is payoff on the Subaru vs what it is worth?

if you keep the Avalon sell the Subaru privately and payoff the note

If you keep the Subaru, sell the Avalon and use the equity to pay down on the Subaru

Its your choice

I have equity so I will get back 8K from selling the Subaru with a buyer lined up…..that is what makes it a tough choice.

Of course yearly taxes and insurance will be lower on the older Avalon.

@bluemaxx Definitely roll the dice on that Avalon man. If it's been that well taken care of don't lose that gem.
