2008 Ford Expedition shuddering transmission

My 2008 Ford expedition started shuddering about a week ago. It happens on all gears at around 1,400 RPMs. It's worse when I go up a hill. There's no misfires which makes me think that it's the torque converter but the mechanic I took it to wants to try replacing the valve body. This makes me nervous because it doesn't have a hard time shifting nor does it slip gears it just shutters around that RPM. I'm waiting to hear his final diagnosis but I'm tempted to take it to someone else. What do you all think? Thank you so much for all the help!

Sounds like it is probably the torque converter but you should take it to a transmission specialist. When is the last time fluid and filter were changed?

Some info on Ford transmission shuddering can be found in this forum:

The person I took it to is a transmission specialist or so they claim. I bought the vehicle a year ago so I'm not quite sure the history of the fluid. It smelled a little burnt last time I checked it though.

If the fluid is burnt that is definitely not a good sign. I would get a second opinion before putting any serious money out. Best would be a local independent transmission specialty shop.

Thank you!
