2008 Mazda 3 ATF Specs and replacement

Hi everyone,

I own a 2008 1.6 Liter automatic mazda 3 with 120'000 km (75'000 miles), I want to replace the transmission fluid and filter because it seems to me the shifting is a tiny bit rougher than before.

I bought a gastket and filter, the fluid spec for my car is "ATF Mazda M-V".

Mazda dealership "can't" get me that spec! They want to sell me "Mazda M-III". Guy at the counter looked like he didn't know what I was talking about......

I found some aftermarket fluid that has Mazda M-III and M-V spec on the bottle. Should I use this, considering I'll only replace part of the fluid when I do the change.

Or, considering Scotty recommends doing part replacement with OEM fluid for some vehicles, keep my "lifetime" fluid that's in my transmission and try my luck with "lifetime"?

Any help much appreciated! Thx

If the price is about the same, I would stick to the OEM. Drain and refill (no flush).

Thanks very much for taking the time to respond. From what I understand Mazda M-V isn't the same as mercon v, and seems to be a spec of it's own. Think i might risk it with a aftermarket fluid and save the old fluid incase...

If this is the case, stick to the OEM. I don't think there is much difference between their prices.

Never ever use aftermarket transmission fluid. Always use OEM and that's it. Drain and fill, make sure you properly check level and do not over fill.  There is no such thing as lifetime or lifelong that's all bs. Also make sure you clean drain plug and area, use clean container and save old fluid just Incase your transmission starts slipping or acting up. If it does drain new fluid and refill with old.
