Hello, I purchased a 2008 Impreza 5 sp with 77,000 miles on it for $3,000. Car was fine for the first month then the steering pump went, the front driver wheel shakes under heavy braking, reverse gear sometimes does not want to engage. Is it worth it to fix it or get rid of it get something else. Car now has 81,000 miles

By the sounds of it, no it is not worth fixing.

The deal sounds too good to be true. Cars in california are expensive but that would go for 6 7k here. I would drive it like that and then get rid of it. The newer subaru impreza's 2012+ are much better (manuel) and I would consider getting a newer Honda Toyota Mazda or Subaru.
