2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid Battery

I only trust Scotty.  A local dealership mechanic said hybrid battery has to be replaced (and all the signs seem to indicate this) and motor shot because it burns a little oil.  I don't think the motor is shot at all at 220,000 miles and I'll add some additives I've seen on Scotty's youtube, and keep changing the oil at 3,000 miles.  But as for battery, where is the best place to purchase a hybrid battery and what type should I get.  Any help is appreciated.  Thank you! Tim

For the hybrid battery, sadly, for a brand new hybrid battery, the best place is the dealer. And that is just for the battery itself. If you get it installed by them, it will be totally insanely priced. Price compare dealers, and check out the Toyota Parts official website to help with the price comparison.

If you are willing to go refurbished, Green Bean battery https://greenbeanbattery.com has refurbishment down to an art form. I used them for my Prius battery replacement at 275,000 miles. I was actually going to go new at the dealer, and install myself, because a new and refurbished were comparably priced. But it was right when Covid started and the price of new skyrocketed. With GreenBean, they even offer complementary installation in certain areas.  The only catch is that you do a core swap, so they can refurbish the battery and put it to the next car.

It’s crazy how long these battery modules last, overall. It is usually the center modules that go out, so GreenBean gets a bunch of old batteries, and uses only the good modules to rebuild the battery.

There is another option with a third party battery that uses different cells, but I’m not too familiar with that option.

find a battery place and ask for a B grade battery.

If one is an electronics DIYer, and feel safe working with high voltage electronics, there is another option.

The battery can be taken apart into its modules,  testing each of the modules to which ones still hold voltage, and buy replacement modules off of eBay for the ones that don’t meet the spec.

Granted, one has to kinda know what they are doing to do this route. And it might be more cost effective to got a refurbished battery instead of refurbishing it oneself.
