I have a 2008 Toyota Rav4 Limited with 143,000 miles on it. It has the 2.L 2AZ-FE engine with automatic transmission that is known for "excessive oil consumption".
A few months ago the oil light came on, so I took it to get the oil changed. This was after about 4000 miles since the last change, and it had almost no oil left at all in the engine!
Now after about 1000 miles since that change, the "maintenance required" light flashes when I first start the car. I don't know if it's related, but I can't help but think it is.
The car rides great, and I'd like to make it last as long as possible, especially given new and used car prices these days. Is there anything other than a full engine rebuild that will help me out here? If not what's a fair price for something like that?
Thanks!
Unfortunately the Piston rings were out in those engines and you would have to rebuild it to fix it. But I see lots of guys. Just keep adding oil and driving them here as long as you keep the oil up every time it's a court down at a court
That light is a reminder for oil change that comes on every 5k miles. You can reset it yourself. Look online and find the procedure. The main thing for you is to keep eyes on the oil level and add oil as needed, otherwise, you end up ruining the engine.
