I found a mint condition 2009 bmw 328i
but the engine died early because of poor maintenance so I want to put another engine in it.
buuttt I don’t want no ls9 or 2jz
I want a Cuvic engine or Camry engine just for jokes anyone have any ideas how I could go about this and if there is an engine in that class that would fit best in the car?
still just a thought for now unless I can get the seller to lower his price
Clarification: you have not bought the car yet? will this be a daily driver or a weekend car or a project car? who will do the engine swap? (how mechanically inclined are you?)
It's not worth it
You might be able to find a Toyota or Honda engine in a junkyard for a decent price.
Couple things: I would not recommend buying a BMW esp. out of warranty as they can become endless money pits as they age. Second, doing an engine swap is not advised esp. the one you mention - you are taking a RWD vehicle with the original engine (BMW 328i has I6) in a longitudinal configuration and near 50/50 weight distribution and replacing with an engine that was intended for use in a FWD transverse application (Civic/Camry). In addition to time and money for the engine swap alone, you would have to re-engineer the rest of the car to work with that new engine and why would you even want to throw off the original 50/50 weight distribution in the first place? And then good luck getting all the electronics on that vehicle (ECU and other modules) to play nice with that new engine. You are better off saving that money spent doing the swap into just getting a different vehicle altogether that won’t have as much issues over time.
