Looking to get a new car and the main one I'm interested in is a 2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid with 149,000 miles on it for $12,000. I'm curious if anyone knowledgeable could give me advice on if this is a good idea or terrible. I want an SUV that gets the best gas mileage possible for not to much and so far this is the best option.
These early hybrids are terrible. Do some research and you'll find out.
Honestly, there is a reason why the Cadillac Escalade/Chevy Tahoe/ Suburban/ GMC Yukon Hybrids were a massive failure. They barely got better gas mileage than the non-hybrid models and they were a lot more expensive. They do not hold up over time compared to the non-hybrid models and cost a fortune to repair the hybrid system. I know someone down my street with a 2009 GMC Yukon hybrid and they were quoted over $10 grand for a new battery since it was on its way out, so once it dies they are just gonna junk the thing and continue to drive their 2009 Dodge Journey and 2009 BMW 328i.
also, Doug Demuro would agree with those GM hybrids being terrible:

With that mileage, even buying a hybrid Toyota does not make much sense.
Just wanted to thank y'all for taking the time to help me out. I'll avoid the car, especially since I don't have the funds to deal with any issues that could pop up.
