Vehicle has 40K miles. The 70 amp fuse on the fuse array that supples the P/S has blown. The load side of the fuse has .2 Ohm resistance to ground. To access the wiring the subframe must be dropped. I dont have a rack to lift the vehicle so all I have are floor jacks. If the control unit is failed the whole rack must be replaced. The warranty is expired and the dealerships cant help. Is there any way to convince dodge to stand behind their product. The car is undriveable at 40K miles. Cant imagine a hydraulic system failing so soon.
It's unfortunate but that's why most people here will advise to stay away from vehicles made by Fiat-Chrysler. Even those models with decent engines and transmissions are prone to expensive electrical problems and they seem deliberately designed to be difficult to repair. (Planned obsolescence.) All the company cares about is the vehicle made it past the warranty period so it's not their concern.
You are correct that it seems old-school hydraulic power steering lasts longer than modern electric steering. The hydraulic type also tends to degrade gracefully over time rather than experiencing sudden catastophic failure. (I have vehicles over 50 years old whose hydraulic power steering is still working.)
Nope.
