I’m thinking of buying a 2009 Corolla s 5 speed 125k for 5k.

Does that year have any serious problems?

what should I look for?

yea. cars are insane right now and a corolla is what you need. Wouldn't ahve good resale value because its a manual though. Maybe a manual civic though, theyre sportier.

The '09 Corolla is the worst corolla of the bunch.

Problems include but not limited to: oil consumption, the water pump failing and loud noises coming from the engine sometimes from the camshaft.

Don't buy that year's model. Corolla is great reliable transportation, but the 2009-2010 models were not that good. Oil consumption, water pump failures, and not the best build quality with some models I have seen having exposed velcro on the dashboard gaps and cheap plastics in the cabin compared to a 9th or 11th gen corolla. I sat in a 2009 model and it somehow felt cheaper and older than a 9th gen Corolla my parents rented a lot in Toronto when we had no car before 2008. I would skip that and look for an 05-08 Corolla S because those were great.
