2009 Elantra SE (4 cyclinder) 2.0 liter - How do I fix my timing?

I was replacing the water pump as it was leaking and decided to do the timing belt. I have done 3-4 already so perhaps I go too comfortable. I lost TDC because the cam moved. I took off valve cover and rotated the engine until a piece of saranwrap puffed up (I had removed all plugs also). I read that that would be the compression cycle and align cam and crank marks and that would give me TDC for Cyl #1. put all that back together and it was turning the engine over and the timing looking at the marks on the cover it appears I am 5 degrees before TDC. Given this was the second tear down, I tried it without accessory drive belts and neg battery terminal loose. It drew enough current to crank the motor with starter. I will add other stuff incase there is a weak spark. I thought with the Balloon Method I would be good. I fear I am missing something and my daughter needs her car back. Help please.

Unfortunately it has variable valve timing. So you need a special tool to hold the cams in place and they moved and now you're kind of screwed you're going to have to pay a mechanic because pretensioning and stuff has to be done you can't really do it yourself without the equipment the gauges and the knowledge once it has slipped
