My headlights flicker when it misfires could the battery be the issue? Or something else

No. Batteries don't really flicker. But it could be the battery terminals. Make sure all connections are clean and tight. Otherwise it might be the alternator.
I heard taking one of the battery post off while the car is running and if it dies then that means the alternator is bad and I done that and it still kept running
That's is pretty much the worst way to check an alternator. Doing that is a great way to finish it off.
