Hi, great videos. Seeking advice. I have a silver 2009 HHR w luggage rack (LS/179,500 miles/new tranny @ 50k), its AC is gone ($1,300.00) it's getting 27.9 mpg, the driver window motor just went (RockAuto and Sunday am will fix that) remote up-down passenger window button doesnt work (local button works)....WHAT SHOULD I DO? Oh, and new radiator, shocks/struts last year. Interior carpet and seat covers are just fair- lots of cosmetic wear and tear. I want fix AC and electrical, then detail recover upholstry and carpet, and get another 100,000 miles from it. I hate monthly car payments. How much does an interior make-over cost?
get another 100,000 miles from it.
Unlikely, 180k is alot for them. I bet its burning a fair amount of oil too.
Its an old GM car, electrical issues are going to continue to keep popping up. The car really isnt worth much, so it wouldnt be smart to dump thousands into it at this point.
What exactly failed/ needs to be replaced in the AC system? Compressor, condenser, something behind the dash? $1300 is alot, might be able to do it yourself by asking here & youtube.
Now, if its truly mechanically sound, doesnt burn much oil, coolant, idles smooth, no rust, and you look through live data, I could see putting some money into it. Im only saying this bc you replaced the radiator & shocks recently, so that probably wont be an issue for awhile. Considering the price of a new car vs getting another year or so out of your HHR, if you can keep it on the road for another year spending less than $1000 then thats not bad at all. Realize that's a gamble, you could do the work it needs today & tomorrow need another $500 (or more) worth of work.
I wouldn't do much to the interior other than cleaning it, or maybe some seat covers. Can also consider going to a scrap yard to find some interior pieces too.
To an extent it depends on the condition of the vehicle, but I'm leaning towards just keep driving it as is, summer is almost over.
Thanks for the advice. I would like to get another 100k out of my HHR, and it has been well cared for so I think I could. The AC needs condenser and regulator (shops in town will only do both or no warranty). So, that'll be $1300. I got a lead on a 2022 Trailblazer LT, $26000, with only 5,600 miles on it. I could trade the HHR, and put $15,000 cash down and low finance thru my credit union the rest. What do you think?

Forget about modern GM products. Stay away from them.
