Hello. I have an '09 Elantra with an auto transmission and 119k miles. The EPS light just turned on. It's still drivable but the steering feels a bit stiffer and it sort of clicks when turning in opposite directions. Not sure if it's still safe to drive or not. Just curious what could be wrong and if it's something that has to be fixed. Love your channel and all the work you do! Thanks in advance for your time and help.
You can try to recalibrate the system by turning your steering wheel lock to lock several times. If that doesn't work, you need a scan tool connected to read a rest the sensor. If that doesn't work, you need to replace the sensor ($55.49 at AutoZone). You'll need to disconnect the battery, remove the air bag, steering wheel and clock spring to get to the sensor. Replace with the new one.
