Hi scotty and everyone. I need some help im trying to help my grandmother out and figure out this starting issue she is having. She has a 2009 mercury mariner automatic with 200k+ miles on it. The issue she is having is it starts when it wants to meaning some days it will start rite up and other days it either wont start at all or you have to turn the key multiple time before the car will actually turn over. Every time you turn the key the dash does all light up and you can hear the starter get power but just dont turn over. As of rite now i know its not the starter i just put in a new 1 yesterday. I know its not the battery i took that and had it tested came back good theres no corrosion or anything on terminals so good contact there. The ignition switch was replaced with a new 1 just not by me and i dont beleive its the starter relay but could be wrong on that. Anyone got any idea whats going on here really could use some help trying to get this figured out so she dont have to bring it to a shop and spend a bunch of money she dont have so any help would be much appreciated thanks in advance.
Well I would start by checking all the wiring to make sure there's no loose wiring or corroded connectors between the battery the ignition switch and the starter. It could also be a bad ignition switch that's wearing out and of course have the battery load tested any auto parts store does that free
