Engine oil overfilled? Does it cause a problem?

Hi Scotty

My dad drives a Hyundai Accent 2012 with 140k kms. Car has been amazing despite being a Hyundai and so far been good. He had the usual oil change at the dealership in the first week of April. I believe the one who did the servicing had no idea of what he was doing. Whilst I was doing the personal check of all fluids in his car, I notice that there was a leak below the engine. Tracing it, it looked like the engine was leaking. The engine oil was overfilled by at least an inch over the F mark by the genius who serviced it when i checked the Dipstick.

My dad had personally gone and gave a nice peace of his mind to the person and got the oil drained and filled to the correct level by the dealership.

However, he has been driving it for over 30 days. Would it have caused any damage internally. Are there any tests to conduct in the engine to ensure that there is no internal damage?

Well the main thing is that amount of extra oil does is it blows the seals and it will leak oil. That small amount of extra oil could do that now if it had four quarts or more extra could actually bend the Piston rods but it wasn't that overfilled

Thank you scotty

Over filling the engine oil can cause major damage.

how come?

By blowing out the main seals, expensive.

How? The crankcase isn't sealed.

See Scotty's answer above.

I did. He said the same thing as you. It doesn't explain anything.
