2009 Saturn Power Steering

Scotty, I got a 2009 Saturn Aura 3.6L V6. I recently noticed, when I turn the wheel stationary/low speed when turning around in driveway or a 3 point turn, the steering wheel tightness up and then will break loose. Is my power steering rack going bad? Is there anything I can do to prolong or save it from getting worse?

Thanks,

Jamie

Assuming it's a hydraulic setup, not electric, you could try changing the power steering fluid. That's something often neglected during maintenance.

Thanks for the advice Chuck, is there a usually a drain plug under the car or is it something easy to do?

A lot of people will simply use a turkey baster to remove old fluid from the reservoir, refill, run the engine a while, repeat until fluid is clear. (Takes a while.) Others will remove the return line from the reservoir and our new fluid in while the pump is pushing old fluid out, but if you let it run dry you can ruin the pump. I like the following method using a vacuum fluid extractor, but no matter how you do it be sure to use the correct fluid designated for your car's power steering:

Thanks again, very helpful!
