Hello!! I have a 2009 Highlander with 185K, runs great! For the past couple of weeks the check engine light with traction light (car with squiggly lines) have come on. When I fill up my gas tank and get back in the car the light goes away. I was thinking it might be an old gas cap, it is the oem one. But the seal looks fine, no cracks, just dirty and old obviously. I decided to have Autozone run codes and they came back with P0174 - system too lean bank 2.
I don't know what that means or what I should do? The car runs fine, no hesitation, shifts smooth, etc.
Thank you!
You probably have some kind of tiny vacuum leak. If it runs okay you could leave it alone, but if you want to figure it out you'll have to pay a mechanic with a vacuum smoke machine to smoke out where the leak is
Ok, good to know thanks! Should I try and replace the gas cap or that code doesn't relate to it? Or can you explain why opening and closing the gas cap would erase the code? Thanks again!!

Scotty usually answers a question once and doesn't revisit it. The possible causes and solutions for a P0174 code are explained here . A bad gas cap can trip a CEL but that's more emissions related.
