2010 civic, not driven for a while

Hi I bought a 2010 civic with 40 000kms in 2018. Today, the starter went out at only 68 000kms. Is this normal?

I'm wondering if even if the car isn't driven, the alternator or starter wears out with age? Or is it only with driving mileage?

I do know that the battery, tires and gas go bad when the car isn't driven for prolonged periods of time but am not sure about the starter and alternator or if there's more things that can go bad?

No, that's not normal at all. Starters are very simple and stout devices. Not much on them that can break. Are you sure it was the starter and not something else?

Alternators + Starters are mostly metal. They shouldn't be affected much by age. But these days you never know. They're trying to stuff plastic into everything.
