2010 Corolla Rattling noise at Cold start

Hi Scotty,

We have a 2010 Corolla and for the last year there is metal rattling noise for a few seconds especially at cold start ... I red a few place that it is something to do with a Timing belt pully part or something like that ? Someone we know had it check and it was a 2000 $ job and they kept it like that for 3 years now

Should we have it fixed ? Can it damage something else ?

Thanks in advance and thanks for all your helpfull tips 🙂

Scott

Your Corolla has a timing chain, not a timing belt.  The symptoms you describe are the classic signs that the timing chain system is failing.  If you let it go, it will destroy your engine.  The timing chain kit (chain, tensioner, guides, etc.) needs to be replaced.  This is a fairly complicated job and expensive, but not near as expensive as a new engine.
