Have a dodge canavan 2010 with dashboard lights on (brake/check engine /bas/ abs/traction control) mileage 251154.It leaks oil about a quarter every month. Help please
First thing I would do is get it scanned.
This can be done at your local auto parts store (they will let you use their scanner)
Write down the codes
Also get the battery checked
When this is done it will start to point at the specific issues to look at
Once you get the codes feel free to post them to this thread and can go from there
Hope this helps
@xtraba
The code is p0420
WOW I can't believe you even made it to 250k miles. You deserve some kind of award because those are some of the worst vans in production. Unfortunately it's time to say goodbye this car isn't worth fixing and even if was it just be a massive waste of money to even attempt to get it running somewhat smoothly. You've pretty much driven it till the wheels fall off and you obvious take decent care of your cars because those vans breakdown before 100k miles most of em. And if you absolutely need a minivan try to get something better than what you have now. Get a Honda or Toyota since you're doing pretty good at keeping your cars for awhile and you should have much better luck with those lasting to 300k miles if taken care of. To help look for a great used van check out Autotempest.com so you can not only get a great car you can get a good deal while your at it. GL
brake/abs/traction control...probably a sensor. All three systems are interconnected. Find a competent mechanic to do a scan. It will pinpoint the exact abs sensor. As long as it stops normally, not a big worry. Drove for years before ABS was invented.
engine light...emissions related...with that many miles...could be as simple as a rotted vacuum hose or mass air flow sensor needing cleaned.
Engine light, as long as it isn't flashing (which means "stop" as soon as practicable). It will likely just be causing some loss of fuel mileage and won't pass an emissions test if your state requires.
Quart a month is nothing to worry about. It's evident you keep an eye on the oil level, that's great.
Neighbor has Caravan with over 350,000 miles...repaired as necessary. Brakes, wheel bearings, exhaust, etc. No payments and cheap insurance.
