My car shut off while I was in a drive thru. I was able to park it in a parking spot before it shut off. I noticed I ran out of gas, so I added 3-4 gallons in and it wouldn’t start…I checked my oil just to make sure and it looks like the level was very low and I added 4qts in the engine and it still won’t start!!! Can you help me ?
Clarification: Which engine and what is the mileage?
Is it a “no-crank no-start” or is it a “crank no-start”?
This chances the recommendation completely.
I'm not sure how much oil that engine holds but 4 quarts low is definitely not a good thing. Does it at least crank? If so, does it start briefly if you spray some starting fluid in the intake, indicating you have spark? Any diagnostic codes? How old is the fuel filter? There are many possible causes. One that comes to mind that the fuel pump may have burned out on you when the gas ran out.
6-7.5 quarts is usually the range for Hyundai V6 engines. According to what I’m seeing online, oil consumption is a very common issue.
So he should have had 2-3 quarts left in the crankcase, hopefully enough to avoid internal damage.
Say good bye to your car.
If you have a crank no start it's possible you burned out the fuel pump when it ran out of gas. Fuel filter can be clog from running low and sucking up all the particles at the bottom of tank As others said need more info. Is it a crank no start, no crank no start.
