Got a 2010 Matrix AWD 2.4L (4 speed auto, about 200000km/124000mi on the odometer) that seems to have a rattling noise when accelerating at about 60 km/h (~37 mph) on uphills or against strong headwinds. From the video, it seems like it occurred at 4th gear. The noise seems to be coming from the floor as I feel it from my feet but not my hands. In the video, the noise occurs around the 13 to 15 second mark. Video link here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ToyotaMatrix/comments/jgasni/floor_rattling_noise_when_accelerating_uphill_at/
So far the mechanics that have worked on this car have removed old broken/rusted heat shields and replaced the muffler kit, but there's still some noise left. I've checked the transmission fluid, and while it smelled old and was dark brown, there was still enough of it in there (not sure if it needs a change). Other than checking the engine mounts and maybe changing transmission fluid, any other things I should try or look out for?
I'd like to try the ChassisEAR that was recommended in some videos to pinpoint the noise, but they cost quite a lot right now from recent searches and aren't exactly affordable.
Did you ever find a reason for the noise in your matrix? My daughters car is making the same noise. A 2010 matrix AWD.
If its rattle that means most likely culprit is something is loose but since it's under the floor thats where the transmission is so hopefully is not coming from there. If you can a way to jack the car up check under there really good and try moving stuff with your hands to see if you can find the problem. Since it only does it at certain speeds it could be anywhere in the drivetrain you if you check really good and can't find it I'd try taking it somewhere to see if they can pinpoint it and hopefully it's nothing major. A lot of the time bolts can come loose on things and jiggle around in place and could cause something like that. Couldn't watch the video for some reason. I think one of my extensions caught it
@jacksonishere
Which extensions you run?
ADB+, disconnect and ublock here
just curious
I run a crapload and I don't really have time to list them all but I do run both those and a lot little convenience things
Have you had a look at the cat & the exhaust plumbing for loose bolts/leaks, etc?
