Is a bought-used, excellent condition 81K 2011 BMW Z4 s35is worth hanging onto, or are there expensive problems in the future?

not unless you live in Germany.
Repairs will be pricey, both the parts and the labor.
If you want to keep it as a weekend toy and project car for yourself to work into, well it will keep you busy in the future!

These are what the new Toyota Supra are based upon and actually may have some upside in the future but time will tell!
