Good Scotty   My wife's 2011 GMC Terrain XLT with Automatic Transmission and the V6 started giving a code saying "Engine Power low" our mechanic said it was the gas pedal and he replaced it.  It has worked fine for the past year and then last week the same code came up as she was driving on Loop 410 here in San Antonio.  A few seconds later the engine shut off, she made it to the edge of the road and set there for a couple of minutes.  She started the engine and came home without any problems.  The next day we took it to our mechanic and they could not find out what was wrong even though they had the same thing happen on a test drive.   I hope you can give me a clue I do not want to take it to GMC if at all possible.

Thanks Larry

There are many different causes which trigger the "Reduced Engine Power" warning, or "limp home" mode as people commonly call it. This is the engine is simply trying to get you home without doing too much damage to itself.

You need to have it looked at by a trained tech, who will hook up a scan tool and pull more information about what has failed.
