when A/C is off, its perfect! smooth and quiet.
When A/C is on, when driving, its fine, but when idling or braking and coming to a stop, the car shakes and vibrates and the revs go up and down nonstop.
I've cleaned the MAF filter, new castrol oil/filter/air filter, new tyres and brake pads .... NO mechanic can work it out ... do you think its the compressor?
I have also noticed the loing and short term fuel trim is around -10% ... i've run BG Platinum® 44K cleaner through twice ... doesnt help either
I can just about guarantee you it's the compressor starting to wear
@scottykilmer
Can attest - AC unit starting to wear out happened on my 07. I checked plugs, alternator, battery, etc. All were OK. AC sprung a little leak, and I dont feel like finding it - so i just put a shot of "freon" every year, and it lasts the WNY summer.
hi all
so i went to the mechanic today and he was like 'if the AC is blowing cold' its not the compressor.
He simply did a throttle body clean with spray ... and, its perfectly fine again, no crazy idle, smooth again when coming to a stop ...
I'm thrilled its not the compressor, didnt think cleaning the throttle body could much such a difference, especially when it was cleaned about a year ago
thanks! that was SUPER fast.
Why/could/would the compressor affect the short/long term fuel trim?

You're feeling the vibration on the dash. But put the AC on with the hood up, and then turn it off, the engine mount itself isn't hiccuping? RPM can go up and down by computer to try and compensate for lack of electrical power.
hi. i can actually see every time the compressor turns on, the engine shake / surge .... so its not just the dash/steering wheel thats vibrating .... when the engine shakes, the rpms go down and then up again ... this continues every 30 secs or so. Engine mounts were replaced about a year ago, so thats not it either ....
also, every time it 'surges' the headlights flicker ... assuming the drain from the compressor is significant .... battery is new, the alternator is good (tested)
