2011 Honda CRV Oil on Timing Cover

Hi Everyone,

Looking for some help/suggestions on how to approach a problem with our 2011 Honda CRV.

Brought the car in to the dealer for a recall (all set there) but the technician found oil on the timing cover. Dealer being the dealer and suggested $2000+ worth of work replacing the chain, pulley and tensioner so I'm curious if anyone might have an idea if any of this is really worth doing.

Car has 170k and hasn't had a problem in terms of consumption of oil nor oil leak under the car. No trouble codes and automatic transmission.

If anyone could let me know if the car needs servicing to fix the oil on the cover?

Could this be fine to drive with for a while?

If it's nothing to be concerned with now when might it be?

Thank you kindly

You should get another opinion from a good independent mechanic. Dealers and chain shops are notorious for ripping people off. They lost money doing the recall work and now they want to make it up, and more, out of your wallet.

I wouldn't worry about driving with a slight oil leak where the oil level not even noticeably dropping. UV dye can be used to find the source. It may even be just a small drip from the valve cover gasket which is a much less expensive repair.
