We have a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan that the battery was hooked up backwards on and we replaced the 40 amp fuse and there is still no power to anything do you have any suggestions like where an inline fuse would be something to look for other than just that 40 amp fuse befuddled on this one thanks Scotty. The terminal actually fried the post enough where they couldn't jerk it loose, probably about 4 seconds. And where do I look for answers to this question or see it's posting? First time here...
Chances are the vehicle electronics are fried. It only takes a fraction of a second for reversed polarity to do that.
You should be able to find a shop manual online at charm.li to see if that helps. If not available there or not sufficient detail all information about your vehicle can be obtained via a short-term subscription to ALLDATAdiy.
Your car's electronics are shot. There are various computers that work based on a 5-volt reference, and the fuses are designed with the positive end in mind, not the negative. They're not designed for the full 12-volts that are provided by the battery -140% more energy is going to it than the design called for. As soon as you completed that circuit going the wrong way, there were no fuses that could be blown before harming the computerized systems. The computers themselves were sacrificed, instead of the fuses, unfortunately.
