Hey there,
I am looking for a car on a budget, and I have seen a 2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS Sedan with an automatic transmission, and a 4 cylinder GDI engine without a turbo for $7,800. I was wondering what your input would be on this, and whether or not it is a good deal.
I had forgotten to mention that the engine is new, and that it has a 6 speed automatic transmission. It has about 95,000 miles on it and I am considering getting it for my first car.
Thank you for letting me know. I will look elsewhere for a better deal on a different car.
Run Panda, RUN!
RUN AWAY FROM THAT ! I had a 2013 (same generation) and this is what happened after only owning the car for a month :

There engines tend to blow up and catch on fire as well.
The price is double what its worth anyways. You didn't say the miles though.
So... NO
For that price you could get a Toyota!
The only Sonata I would even begin to think of considering as a budget ride would be the 2006-2010 generation. Those weren't great but weren't godawful like the later ones. It also would have to be very cheap and low miles, preferably under 100K.
Hyundai quality has really declined over the past decade and they are only good to own under warranty up to 100,000 miles; btw, that 10 year/100,000 mile warranty they are famous for only applies to the original owner. This one is at 95,000 miles and warranty won’t apply to you. As a first car, and especially one you plan to put lots of miles on and keep for a while, I cannot recommend any of these Hyundai Motor Group products (which also includes Kia). I would look at a Toyota, Honda, and even a Mazda (but during the era after Ford).
No way on earth, probably the worst purchase I have seen in a few weeks of coming once in a while on the forum if you buy it. Its not even worth that much, or TBH half that. Depending on miles, it could be an absolutely terrible purchase, or will set your life on fire. Do not buy a Hyundai Sonata with a defective engine and pay Camry prices for it, that's just absurd.
