2011 Scion tC transmission popping out of gear

So had this car for about 5 months, it’s my first manual, everything is good, but I have noticed lately for the past 2 weeks sometimes the shifter will pop out of 4th gear, so basically I’m cruising at 3rd gear, let off the gas, step on the clutch, shift to 4th and start letting go of the clutch while stepping on the gas and the shifter will pop out, if does sometimes feel like in doesn’t go all the way in, and the car will rev up so I would have to let go of the gas and again clutch and into 4th and kind of push it into gear and that would be fine, is there something going on or is it just user error?

Ohh the car is 168318 miles

This is a symptom of worn out synchros.  If it pops out of gear, it means it's not going all the way into gear in the first place.  A lot of times, this is caused by people resting their hand on the shift lever while driving in the higher gears and wearing out the synchros.  Only real fix is a trans rebuild.

Popping out of gear is definitely not normal. If you're lucky the shift linkage is out of adjustment. Otherwise that transmission has excessive internal wear.

So idk if this is any help but when I shift gears while the car is off, 4th gear feels loose, all other gears it feels like it locks into place like there is a specific locking feeling but 4th specifically just slides into it, no locking sensation

Check your linkage for looseness and proper adjustment. As I said, if it's not that it's worn parts in the transmission.

Ok so I got it checked by a family friend that works at a local transmission repair place, I showed him what I do, he noticed that since I learned to drive manual with YouTube videos, there may be some internal wear but the main issue seems to be Bc I let go of the clutch too slowly and step on the gas a bit too fast, I started completely letting go of the clutch before stepping on the gas and it stopped popping out of gear, he said if there is wear in the trans, I will need to get it rebuild or install a new one but only if the problem becomes more obvious but till then I will just baby it, will let you know if the problem happens again

Thanks for letting us know, that's the thing about manual transmissions they are more simple and reliable that automatics but are much more susceptible to problems caused by user error. Hopefully it will be OK for a while now that you have your shifting technique down.
