Hi Scotty,
Luv your videos.
I know your thoughts on EV's. However, I have wonder, what your thoughts on the future (6 -8 years from now) of what the USED EV market may look like?
I see a future where the market is high for the used EV's because the original price was high. But then the new owner will have to put thousands of dollars into a reconditioned battery. A battery where some to the cells have been replaced and the rest of the cells are about to go bad.
And what happens to the old cells. I know of no large scale recycling or disposal plans. Perhaps all the bipolar people that society seems to have these day will final get the lithium they need.
And as far as the tax incentive for buying a new EV...It's just another tax break for the wealthy. If you can spend $80,000 on a car, you should be able to pay your fair share of taxes.
Thanks,
Jim, In Ohio
Who knows what the future will hold. If I could predict the future, I would have played the Lottery already.
An electric vehicle with a worn out battery that has no warranty will likely be scrap value unless battery replacement cost becomes much less expensive than it is today. As far as the tax incentives, if the technology was really better than that of gasoline powered cars there would be no need for them. The market would naturally gravitate that way. Instead, governments are working to "nudge" people in a direction that is really of no benefit to them as the technology exists today. (As far as the reasons that discussion is off topic for this forum.)
Like others have said, no one can predict the future. With that said, we can kinda plan for it with different scenarios.
Suppose battery supply is tight and expensive and used EV’s are abundant. Then EV’s will be cheap.
Suppose battery supply is abundant and cheap, and used EV’s are scarce, then used EV’s will be expensive.
Suppose battery supply is abundant and cheap, and used EV’s abundant. EV’s will be cheap.
Suppose battery supply is tight, and used EV supply is tight, EV’s may be moderate.
So many different scenarios and contingencies, even beyond what is listed.
