Scotty,

My wife found you last year when she was looking for what used car to buy that would last forever and last November we found it thanks to you. After a long search we found a 2011 Toyota Avalon at an estate sale with 105K on it and in almost like new condition so we bought it and love it. The car it replaced was an 05 Chevy Aveo that her Dad bought new and had 96K on it when we found the Toyota. Big improvement with the new car but we now want to keep this Toyota in top shape for long road trips and we tend to keep the good cars 20 years or more so this thing might see 300/400K miles or more. The problem I see with newer cars is they don't give you a way to change the auto transmission fluid so now that it has 106K I would like to have it changed so it can live longer but I can't do it myself and don't know if I should trust a local dealer to do it cause they may not do it right and mess things up. Should I just drive it till it quits or take a chance and have it changed? I know they say it's good for life but I want a longer life out of it than they plan for.

You should change transmission fluid if you want it to last.

Since you won't be doing the work yourself, and you plan to keep the vehicle for a while, you will need to find a mechanic to do you maintenance anyway.

See our FAQ about finding mechanics. Ask your friends and loved ones.
