My neighbor is selling a 2011 Toyota Prius with 130,000 miles, the Carfax & AutoCheck checks out & has a clean title, but I remember Scotty saying don't buy any Hybrids with Hi-Mileage, the battery holds charge & is at 100%. I want to keep it for at least 2 years until I can afford a newer one with less miles. So what is your advice should I go for it or not?
Thanks,
Tony
How much are they asking for it?
I wouldn’t.
Since you only need a car for 2yrs, till you can afford a newer Prius, I’d buy a cheap Corolla/Civic and save up money on the side.
If you must get this Prius, don’t pay much because you aren’t getting any guarantee if the hybrid battery or generator packs up. They cost a fortune to repair. And no matter what, check the hybrid battery health at your Toyota dealer/mechanic, to check its remaining life.
130k miles is a bit on the high side the battery and generator life is a risk so you would want a mechanic to check it out and don't pay much or better yet get a different car and get a newer lower mileage Prius when you can.
