2011 Toyota RAV4 2.5L 4wd transfer case oil capacity

Hi Scotty and Community.

I recently changed the transfer case oil, and doing this near the end of a long work day, I made a mistake where I didn't pay attention to how much new oil was pumped from the bottle to the transfer case. At the time, I filled the transfer case till oil came out of the fill hole. However, my mistake that I didn't realize till later is that the nozzle on my Harbor Freight fluid transfer pump was not aimed at the fill hole properly, so the first fill was not correct because the fluid hit a wall or obstruction near the opening, which I needed to aim about 45 degrees to the left.

I only got half the recommended amount (0.48 qt) on the first fill, and we drove on it for about 500 miles, mixed city/freeway. How much damage could we have caused? No vibration, noise, nor operational differences have been noticed before and after oil change. Should I change the oil again to see if the magnet drain plug caught any thing?

This was the first transfer case oil change with 65k miles, I replaced it with Royal Purple 75w-90.

Thanks.

That's small amount of driving I don't think it hurt anything

I would just top it up.

Thanks, everyone. Yeah, I did as soon as I realized something was off with what I had left in the bottle.

Just wondered if I should keep a lookout for anything. I know it is setup with passive AWD, but still worried.

nope. 🙂
