2011 Toyota Sienna Knocking

Scotty,

I have a 2011 Toyota Sienna SE. On cold startup I hear a pretty loud clacking/knocking for a few seconds and then the engine runs quiet as normal. The noise is definitely from the belt/timing chain area. The van has approximately 125,000 miles on it. We were hoping to get another 120,000 out of it, but this noise is concering. I am assuming it has to do with either the timing chain or water pump as it must be a part that gets lubricated after startup. I am ordering a stethescope next, but was wondering if you had any ideas.

Thanks,

Ron

Yeah off in the timing tensioner chain gets stuck in it rattles until it warms up. You could try that ATS engine oil carbon cleaner sometimes I can help but if not you have to take the engine apart and it's a very very expensive job

Thanks, that is what I was afraid of. It has been a long time since I did a project like that, I may give it a shot.

Definitely a new timing chain kit is needed.
