Hey Scotty,
So today I was on the interstate with my 2011 VW Jetta, 110k miles, 6 speed auto, and while I was traveling at 80 mph on the interstate, my car's engine shuddered and failed and a bunch of dashboard lights lit up.
The battery was fine, but I lost my power steering and I attempted to start the car again, but all I get is an electric beeping sound and the engine unable to start. There was one instance that the engine started, but it failed again a few seconds later. I was thinking it may had something to do with the fuel system, but I am unsure. What could've caused this?
simple things first ...
- was there gas in the tank?
- was voltage good?
- are you maintaining it regularly?
- was it cranking?
1. Yes, the tank was 3/4 full
2. Not sure, the lights and windows worked fine, but the traction control and power steering did not
3. It was due for its major 120k mile service and I was schueduled to bring it in.
4. Yes, the engine even started briefly before dying again
are there any trouble lights still lit up on the instrument panel?
Just the battery light, CEL, traction control. The Emergency Brake light was also up, but that's expected due to using the handbrake
ok so running a diagnostic scan might reveal useful information about what happened
Blast. I don't have one of those scanners. Thanks for the advice though.
Does Autozone loan out scanners? There's no way I'll be able to take my car anywhere for the time being.
