Hello, I have a 2012 Chevy Cruze auto with 140,000 miles on it, when the car is idling, or when it starts up cold, sometimes the engine makes a loud ticking noise almost sounds like a knock, there are no lights on the dash, and drives perfectly fine. A person told me that it could be the lifters that are making the noise, and they need to be clean, or you can get a special oil for the car, is this what it is?
Those engines tend to be very noisy as they put on miles - they're not very well made. I wouldn't try to change the oil viscosity on those because that could just make it worse. Use the recommended oil viscosity and keep fresh oil in the engine. I would change the oil on that every 3K-4K miles. Hopefully that should help with the noise a little, but reality is the engine is just wearing out.
