2012 Ford Fusion SE 2.5L non hybrid.
I replaced the electric power steering rack with a new motocraft part. I gave my vin when ordering. Watched online videos it said I need to program it. After it's installed I hooked a scan tool to car and could read that module and it had what look like correct values and the car steering seems to work fine again. There is a code on scanner u2100. What happens if I just drive it like this? I don't think my scan tool can write to the module. And when I went to Ford website there is only one config for my vin. Does that mean it will just work? Thanks
I don't think my scan tool can write to the module.
Unless you have access to a $5000 scan tool, which is way beyond what 99.9% of DIY mechanics know how to operate, your best bet is to have a professional mechanic look at it. It's popping a code for a reason. If you could just drive it, the engineers wouldn't need to bother with codes.
Thanks, that's what I was thinking but just wanted to confirm. I have a $3,000 snap on scan tool but it didn't seem to have the functions I needed
