Hi Scotty and everybody! Greetings, my name is Luis, I have 2012 Lexus GX 460 with nearly 170,000 miles on it, I got the truck with 140,000 miles three years ago an by that time I replaced all fluids and filters including power steering, brakes, coolant etc, never have a problem with the truck and It ran flawlessly, in fact I believe is one of the must reliable and overall best vehicles I've ever owned, now wile I was changing the engine oil witch I do every 4000 miles with full synthetic castrol oil, I noticed that the engine is sweeting oil on the side, not leaking or dropping oil on the flor, also not consuming oil at all, I am not 100% sure but I believe is the timing chain cover gasket, for what I read it is a huge consuming time work but nothing crazy and totally doable, so I'm going to do it, my question is, once I'm doing this would you recommend changing the water pump, thermostat, spark plugs? And if you do something else you recommend or any advise or tip on this job? Thank you in advance.
Change out your timing chain kit with all the parts. It's over due anyway. Also, get a new timing cover main seal and maybe a repair sleeve for the balancer. Water pump and thermostat and radiator cap, yes. Make sure it's not just a leaking valve cover gasket first before you take the entire front of the engine apart. New hoses and belts are a must.
The Toyota 4.6 V8's have a known cam tower leak, seepage. There's even a class action lawsuit against Toyota regarding this issue. I've seen a few videos on what's involved. It's certainly do-able. Good luck with the fix.
