AC compressor noise

2013 ford focus Ac base

I'm a locksmith and I program modules like the tcm on all these focus. They say the parts not in stock but they will get me 1 for an extra $200 bucks everytime🤣. But anyway loud noise when turning on ac last week. Today it stopped I assumed eventually I'd have to learn how to change the ac compressor. But after research it seems that noise was the clutch most likely but since I waited is it time to just replace the whole thing?

Assuming that was the source of the noise, the compressor clutch may not even be available as a separate item. However when the AC compressor engages that puts a heavy load on the entire belt drive system so it could have been some other part. It could even have been a radiator or condenser fan. If the noise happens again you need to track down the actual source rather than simply researching what it might be.

If the compressor is failing internally that typically contaminates the AC system with debris. So along with the compressor the condenser, drier, and expansion valve (or orifice tube) are replaced as well, and the rest of the system flushed out. Replacement compressors typically require this for the warranty to remain in effect. (Compressor replacement is best left to a pro if you are not familiar with working on air conditioning.)

The noise came when ac was on and now that ac blows hot the noise is gone. That makes me assume it was the clutch making the noise. But now that it is all the way out and blows hot and the noise is gone. I'm guessing the answer is new compressor. I'm not a pro but I am a locksmith so I know my way around. When makinging keys I get stuck into doing mechanic work. I have a vacuum pump and plan to buy it with oil already inside.

Thank you btw
