Hey Scotty! So I just picked up a used civic from a mostly Jeep dealership. 39K miles. One owner. I feel pretty good about the purchase. But anyway, I was only given 1 key. My question is if I purchase a blank duplicate key from a site like this:
Which looks exactly like the key I was given I might add. Would I be able to go to a Honda dealer and get it cut and programmed for my civic at a low cost? I really want a duplicate in case I lose the original which shouldn't happen but ya know. Will other retailers like Ace Hardware, Lowes, Home Depot cut and program the key? Do you have any experience with this and maybe exact costs? I feel like it would be pretty cheap since i'm providing the key. Thanks again!
What you need is a certified locksmith who can cut & program the key for you, for probably half of what the dealership might charge you.
Price around and search online for certified locksmiths in your area.
PS. Good idea on wanting to make a duplicate key..
i have read some amazon reviews that folks purchased key/fobs, but they would not program
i have had keys made by a locksmith for $75 total, he programed the key sitting in my driveway
i had a civic key made/programed for a civic at a local place named batteries & bulbs and they charged $50 total
i asked honda for an extra key in 2008 and they wanted $150
