2000 Ford Excursion Key Fob

My son owns a 2000 Ford Excursion. One of the original key fobs is no longer operational, even with a new battery. I have found a new Ford OEM fob with ALL of the alpha-numeric characters on the back side exactly as on the original, non-operational fob. However, the original fob has 3 buttons. The new fob I have found has 4 buttons--a fourth one to open the hatch, which a 2000 Excursion does not have. Will having this additional button make any difference when I program the fob to lock/unlock door locks?

After I did some research on the internet, I am answering my own question. Per Bartolete Keys on eBay, who sells used fobs, they indicated that a replacement fob should look exactly the same as the original fob with the same buttons and functions and have the same Ford part numbers and FCC IDs on the back side as the original fob. If you don't have a fob for your vehicle, contact the dealer with your VIN so they can tell you the fob part number. Once you know that, you can contact a fob vendor for the correct fob.
